SMI brings joy to school children in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat
Tampakan, South Cotabato - Some 790 school children from four schools in Columbio in Sultan Kudarat have recently been recipients of free school supplies, school bags, and special treat from Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI).
In partnership with its host municipality, personnel from SMI distributed free school supplies, to include notebooks, writing pads, ballpens, and pencils among other, to 155 learners of Polomolok Elementary School, 245 learners from Elbebe Elementary School, 50 children from Kafingol Primary School and 340 learners from Mayo Integrated School.
The children also each received 2 kilos of rice and a special meal from Jollibee.
"Maraming salamat LGU-Columbio-SMI Partnership Day sa binigay nyo pong munting regalo para sa mga mag aaral ng Sitio Kafingo, napakalaking tulong po ito para sa kanila," Kafingol Primary School Teacher Hagg Taguan said.
"Maraming salamat po at naipriority po sila dahil sila pong mag aaral ay may kalayuan sa proper, bilang kinatawan ng Edukasyon sa aming barangay ako po ay malugod na nagpapasalamat sa inyo dahil po ang mga batang mag aaral na ito ang kinabukasan ng Barangay Mayo," she added.
Columbio Municipal Government-Project Monitoring Officer Lady Bai Mangudadatu also expressed her gratitude to the mining firm, for helping the municipal government in its effort to advance the socio-economic developments of its communities, especially those populated with indigenous peoples.
"Sana hindi magsawa ang SMI sa kanilang pagtulong sa mga LGUs. Dahil sa SMI, na o-augment ang mga proyekto ng LGU, lalo na doon sa pangkabuhayan, edukasyon at imprastraktura," Mangudadatu said during the two days commemorative event held on August 27 and 29, 2024.
Since 1997, SMI had already invested more than PhP1.4 billion in financing various projects and activities that are aimed at improving the socio–economic, health and educational conditions of the communities where the Tampakan Project is located. (30)
