SPDA Chief Executive on SMI?s Tampakan Copper-Gold Project: 'really Responsible Mining in all its essence and practice'
TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato - Southern Philippines Development Authority (SPDA) Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Abdulghani ‘Gerry’ Ajul Salapuddin, has thrown his support to the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project as he believes in its great potential to make a significant contribution to the economic prosperity of the Philippines and enable a better future for the people of southern Mindanao.
Administrator Salappudin expressed this message after official representatives from Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) – the permit holder and partner of the National Government to develop one of the largest copper-gold deposits in the world – presented the status and progress of the Tampakan Project on January 18, 2023.
SMI’s presentation underscored its commitment to upholding the rights of local communities hosting the Tampakan Project, the promotion of the socio-economic development for its host communities and the Company's adherence to continuously working in partnership with the local and national government and all stakeholders in a responsible way.
Salappudin believes that SMI's Tampakan Project is the epitome of responsible mining.
"Especially what you have been presenting is really responsible mining in all its essence and practice. This kind of mining, I don't see any problem in the environment in the future," the official said.
The SPDA official also said that it was "eye opening" to learn the actual and potential economic benefits from responsible mining.
"It is eye opening because Mindanao has lots of mineral resources."
The SPDA is a government enterprise that promotes and enhances balanced growth in Mindanao through economic and developmental initiatives, which is believed to be one of the solutions in totally eradicating poverty in the country, creating more jobs and feeding millions of Filipinos. (30)
