SAFETY AND HEALTH SUPERINTENDENT

The role is responsible to lead the preparation and implementation of the Annual Safety and Health Program and ensure the company compliance to Safety standards  and policies.
 
The role will also provide technical inputs to the preparation of mine design, mine plan and other mining engineering related programs and when required shall supervise program implementation. It will supervise and monitor the implementation of SMI Safety and Health Management System at a project operational level to ensure that the working environment across the sites promote and protect the safety and health of employees, contractors and stakeholders.
 
This is a regular employment position based in Tampakan, South Cotabato.
 
Key responsibilities:
 
1. Sustainable Development Practices – Ensure compliance with the Project’s safety, health, environment, community and security standards and systems, including reporting requirements of all safety -related incidents, to have a positive impact on the Project’s SD culture.
2. Safety & Health - Drive full implementation of safety management systems to help create and sustain a culture wherein all employees and contractors work responsibly and perform roles without risk of injury, disease, or death.
3. Security – Ensures security procedures are being observed in every undertaking that requires security compliance.
4. Environment – Follows environment policies and guidelines and ensures that environmental targets are being achieved.
5. Information Management System – Ensure that full support is provided in the implementation of the Information Management System.
6. Planning / Technical – Provide technical inputs to ensure that safety management systems, procedures, guidelines, standards, frameworks, and programs are place.
7. Monitoring / Reporting - Ensure prudent and responsible cost management and expenditures are assigned to correct cost codes and areas. All expenditure to adhere to the project’s delegated authorities manual.
8. Compliance – Ensure that the project has efficient controls in place to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant internal and external workplace safety & health standards and reporting requirements.
 
Key requirements:
 
• Licensed Mining Engineer
• With ten (10) years or more of supervisory work experience in Mining Engineering projects and with 10 years' experience as Safety practitioner.
• Knowledge in the preparation of Annual Safety and Health program.
• Knowledge in mining methods and operations.
• Proficient in conducting Safety Trainings and Rollout.
• Excellent planning and organization, leadership, mentoring and influencing others.
• Knowledgeable in risk / hazard assessment and management.
• In depth knowledge in incident investigation.
• Contractor oversight.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable health and safety legislations and issues in the mining industry, both in the Philippines and internationally.
