FORESTER

SMI is looking for 2 Foresters.   Based in Tampakan, the role is tasked to provide support to the Environment Officer in the implementation of the company’s Reforestation Program which includes care and maintenance (including monitoring) of the planted seedlings, tree cutting with knowledge on forest mensuration and forest flora and fauna inventory.

Key responsibilities:

  • Sustainable Development Practices – Ensure effective implementation of the project’s sustainable development standards and systems within own area of responsibility to positively contribute to nurturing the organization’s culture on sustainable development.
  • Environment  – Ensure adherence to Environment policies and procedures to achieve targets that are set internally. Take the lead in conducting river water quality monitoring in select river systems within the tenement area.
  • Planning / Technical – Provide advice and support to SMI personnel on monitoring equipment-related technical issues and support technical team objectives. Work with SMI teams and others on safety and environmental management issues and related infrastructure projects to provide technical information, guidance, and recommendations.
  • Monitoring and Reporting – Direct and supervise field works to ensure the integrity of collected data that are necessary to monitor leading and lagging indicators of the company’s environmental performance in mitigating environmental risks. Ensure the regular monitoring of environment equipment condition and accurate data recording, analysis and reporting with a focus on preservation of organizational knowledge.
  • Compliance – Provide support to the position manager when interfacing with regulatory agencies, ascertain permitting requirements, and developing compliance plans. Ensure appropriate record keeping and submission of required reports, and implement effective follow-up measures to ensure that the Project obtains the necessary Environmental Compliance Certificate and related permits in a timely manner.

 

Key requirements:

  • Licensed Forester
  • 2 years minimum experience in reforestation program and tree cutting implementation
  • Literate in various software applications (MS Suite and MapInfo will be advantageous), has theoretical and practical knowledge of using GPS and GIS Operation, and can practically understand and use maps.
  • Willing to work with and understand cross cultural project aspects
