SMI's Tampakan Copper-Gold Project earns recognition and support from Regional Development Council XII
TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato - Citing the potential contribution and positive impact on the local community and the sustainable development in the SOCCSKSARGEN region, the Regional Development Council XII (RDC XII) has acknowledged Sagittarius Mines, Inc.'s (SMI) Tampakan Copper-Gold Project, as a key driver for regional economic advancement.
During its 81st Regular Meeting on June 21, 2023, the Council passed Resolution No. 88, series of 2023, recognizing the potential contributions of the Tampakan Project to bring progress to the region.
With an estimated 2.4 billion tons of copper-gold deposit, the Tampakan Project can provide significant employment and business opportunities and enable substantial multiplier effects with a mine life of more than 40 years. For the first ten years of its operations, the Project has the potential to contribute more than PhP76.6 Billion in national taxes, PhP4.8 Billion in local taxes, and PhP2.7 Billion for the development of the local, provincial and regional communities.
SMI's External Affairs and Communications Manager Roy D. Antonio thanked RDC XII and the other regional stakeholders for recognizing and supporting the Project. At the same time, he added, "from the moment we were adopted as RDC XII Flagship Project in Minerals Development in 2009, we had been steadfast in our commitment to the highest technical, environmental, social and governance standards of sustainable development. For this, we were conferred in 2009 up to 2013 the Presidential Mineral Industry Environment Award (Exploration Category), the highest accolade awarded to a mining company in the Philippines for outstanding environmental and sustainable development practices."
“Since then, we continue to pass the mandatory quarterly and annual audits of government regulators, the Multi-partite Monitoring Team and external 3rd parties in the areas of tenement and environmental management, safety and health, social development, and ISO 14001:2015 standards.
“We would like to assure all our stakeholders in the region and in the host communities that, beyond the compliances, beyond the numbers… we are committed to the letter and spirit of responsible mining."
The Tampakan Project is located within the boundaries of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani – three of the four provinces and two chartered cities that comprise Region XII. -END-
