University of Southeastern Philippines recognizes SMI during its 44th Founding Anniversary
Davao City – The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) celebrated its 44th Founding Anniversary with week-long activities that included the Adlaw sa mga Bahandi (Day of Treasures) on December 13, 2022, where faculty, students, staff, and alumni recognized Sagittarius Mines, Inc (SMI), among other stakeholders, for its contribution to the development of the University.
Specifically, USeP cited SMI’s support and cooperation in the implementation of the Remote Sensing for Sustainable Minerals Development: A Case Study of the Tampakan Deposit, which led to the “improvement of a positive research culture in the University, thereby contributing to the transformational development in Davao Region.”
Mr. Roy Antonio, Manager for External Affairs and Communications, received the Plaque of Recognition on behalf of the Management and staff of SMI and assured them that SMI will continue to consider USeP its major academic partner in the development of mining technology and geosciences (DMTG) as a component of the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project.
Even though it is not yet operating, SMI upgraded the Petrographic Analysis Equipment of USeP’s College of Engineering in 2018, partnered on the case study of the Tampakan Deposit in 2020, provided four (4) Intel Core i5 laptops and commenced another research study with USeP on the “Physical Characterization and Modelling of Sediment Transport Processes in Taplan River Watershed” in 2021.
SMI’s funding of these DMTG projects and studies with USeP amounted to around PhP2.4 million.
Moreover, SMI collaborated with USeP to mentor and mold SMI scholars through the Samahan ng Matatalinong Indibidwal Scholarship Program (SMI-SP), all of whom have successfully graduated, passed their respective PRC exams, and are currently practicing their professions as Mining Engineers, Geologists and Civil Engineers in other operating mining companies.
