Pusong Minero: SMI extends immediate aid to landslide-hit families in Surigao del Norte
Tampakan, South Cotabato - Sagittarius Mines, Inc, (SMI) extended immediate assistance to families affected by a landslide that occurred in Barangay Siana in Mainit town, Surigao del Norte last May 11.
Through its Oplan Tabang and Pusong Minero advocacy, the mining company based in Tampakan, South Cotabato immediately mobilized and deployed a team to deliver PhP 300,000-worth of disaster relief items, including rice, canned goods, and noodles, benefiting some 239 affected residents and families.
SMI External Affairs Manager Roy D. Antonio led the disaster relief mission on May 15, 2024.
The said relief items were turned over to Greenstone Resources Corporation for re-packing and distribution to the evacuees and families of the victims.
“It is during these tragic moments when Pinoy solidarity and Pusong Minero – helping the communities in need, when needed, wherever needed – come together. We’ve done it before and we will continue to do it, to the best of our capability. Even though we are not yet operating, we mobilized our limited resources to support the relief operations in the municipalities of Mainit and Tubod,” said Mr. Antonio.
Meanwhile, DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region XIII (Caraga) Regional Director, Engr. Larry M. Heradez lauded SMI for helping provide for the needs of evacuees.
"Maraming, maraming salamat Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) sa mabilisang pagtugon sa panawagan para tulungan ang ating mga kababayan. Nanggaling pa sila sa South Cotabato, bumiyahe ng mahabang oras para maihatid sa atin itong tulong. Kahanga-hanga ang pusong minero ng SMI," Director Heradez said during a radio interview. (30)
