SMI helps boost educational opportunities for 1,354 scholars from its host and neighboring communities
Tampakan, South Cotabato - A total of 1,354 underprivileged but deserving students from the provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao del Sur has received scholarship grants from mining firm Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) for the School Year 2023-2024.
SMI reported on Wednesday that the company has allocated a total of PhP10.2 Million as an educational support fund under its corporate social responsibility and its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) to help boost the educational opportunities, especially for the different indigenous cultural communities of its host and neighboring communities within the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project.
Under the program, 578 students were given opportunities to take up various courses in different colleges and universities. It also identified 157 senior high and 619 high school students who will benefit in furthering their education and pursuing their dreams.
SMI also announced that it will start to distribute the financial assistance for the 2nd semester of the current school year, beginning next month.
Last School Year 2022-2023, SMI successfully produced 36 university and colleges graduates from its host municipalities of Columbio in Sultan Kudarat, Tampakan in South Cotabato and Kiblawan in Davao del Sur.
SMI is relentless in providing financial aid to talented and deserving students to give them access to educational opportunities that are not normally available to them and had already invested more than PhP1.2 Billion in financing various projects and activities that are aimed at improving the socio–economic, health and educational conditions of the communities where the Tampakan Project is located.
