Tampakan, South Cotabato - The municipal government of Malungon in Sarangani province thanked Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) for the successful free medical and dental mission on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, that was held in one of its remote barangays.
Mayor Maria Theresa “Tessa” Constantino expressed her gratitude to the mining firm, for helping the municipal government in its effort to advance the socio-economic developments of its communities, especially those populated with indigenous peoples.
"With the continuous assistance of SMI, we have been able to provide more medicines and also give better and more effective services to the people," Mayor Constantino said.
During the activity, residents of Barangay Blaan, a far-flung community, availed of free medical services which included dental works, medical consultations, "Operation Tuli", and medicines.
As one of the host municipalities of the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project, Malungon annually receives financial assistance from SMI and partners with it in developing critical development projects aimed at improving the living conditions of mining communities. This partnership is a major component of SMI’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).
With all major approvals and permits from the national government secured, SMI is ready to start construction this year and produce its first copper concentrate in mid-2027. (30)
