SMI Supports Mothers and Seniors in Tupi Health Activity

Tupi, South Cotabato — Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), together with the Tupi Nutrition Office, Municipal Health Office, and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Bololmala, held a community health activity for pregnant women and senior citizens on August 6, 2026, in observance of Breastfeeding Month.

The gathering focused on practical health information, proper nutrition, and the support families need during pregnancy, early motherhood, and later in life.

Pregnant participants received Buntis Kits with basic items for pregnancy and early childcare. They also attended a breastfeeding session led by Ms. Beneth B. Rojo, RND, who discussed exclusive breastfeeding, proper techniques, and the nutritional needs of mothers during pregnancy and lactation.

For Christine Simpao, one of the pregnant participants, the activity offered more than material assistance.

“Very helpful ang activity because maka-help yung knowledge nga na-earn namin ngayong araw sa future na mga anak namin, at yung buntis kits, salamat sa company ng SMI, maka-save talaga kami,” Christine shared.

Senior citizens also took part in the activity. They received food packs and joined a discussion on Pinggang Pinoy, which covered balanced meals, appropriate food portions, and healthier choices that can help prevent malnutrition among older adults.

Erlinda Margen, a senior citizen participant, said the assistance was a welcome reminder that older members of the community continue to be considered in local health efforts.

“Nagpapasalamat sa kabutihan at malasakit sa matatanda. Nakakatuwa po na patuloy kaming naaalala at nabibigyan ng ganitong suporta,” Erlinda said.

For SMI, initiatives like this are part of a continuing effort to respond to community needs through close coordination with local partners. Through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), the company works with local government units, health workers, community leaders, and residents to support programs that improve health, nutrition, and daily well-being.

By bringing mothers, seniors, and local health partners together, the activity helped provide useful support where it matters most—within families and the wider community. (30)
