Tampakan, South Cotabato – Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) extended meaningful support to Barangay Albagan, Tampakan, South Cotabato, bringing assistance closer to residents through the turnover of office fixtures, food packs, and medicines on September 24, 2026. The activity, held at the Barangay Hall grounds, reflected the shared efforts of SMI and the barangay to respond to practical needs and strengthen community partnership.
The assistance responded to identified community needs, supporting barangay operations while providing timely help to residents, particularly senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), malnourished children, and other community members in need.
SMI turned over office fixtures, including chairs and tables, for use at the Barangay Hall. The items will support barangay officials and personnel in carrying out their daily responsibilities, as well as meetings, consultations, and other community activities.
Food packs were also provided to senior citizens, PWDs, malnourished individuals, and other identified beneficiaries.
For Barangay Nutrition Scholar Donna Torejos, the assistance will help strengthen the barangay’s feeding efforts:
“Nagapasalamat mi sa SMI sa ilang tabang sa among barangay. Dako kaayo ni’g ikatabang sa among feeding program, ilabi na para sa mga malnourished children, senior citizens, PWD, ug uban pa nga nanginahanglan.”
Meanwhile, medicines were provided to augment the barangay’s available health resources and support residents who rely on basic and maintenance medicines.
Leonard Castanares, RM, BSM, Human Resources for Health – DOH Midwife II assigned in Barangay Albagan, highlighted the value of the medical assistance, particularly for residents who may face challenges accessing health resources.
“Dako gid nga benepisyo ang mga tambal especially sa maintenance meds kay sa ka layo sang amon nga lugar may ara sang naga-support sa amon. Thank you, SMI!”
The support forms part of SMI’s continuing community engagement under its commitment to responsible mining and its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP). Through the SDMP and other community initiatives, SMI works with its host and neighboring communities to respond to identified needs in health, education, livelihood, nutrition, and community development.
