Continuing Empowerment of IPS Leaders Highlighted in SMI-NCIP IPRA Refresher in Tampakan

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), in partnership with Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) and Barangay Local Government Unit of Barangay Tablu, conducted an IPRA refresher for IPS leaders of the Sbangken Indigenous Cultural Communities.

The activity aimed to deepen their understanding of Indigenous Peoples’ rights, including ancestral domain, self-governance, and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC).

Led by NCIP Polomolok, the session also emphasized the important roles and responsibilities of community leaders in upholding and protecting the rights of their communities.

This initiative forms part of NCIP and SMI’s continuing efforts to strengthen the capacity of IP leaders within the Tampakan Project area by enhancing their knowledge and ability to safeguard their rights and actively participate in community governance and development.

SMI reaffirmed that all its engagements with Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) are anchored on respect for rights, transparency, accountability, and a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.
