Beyond compliance: SMI passes another ISO 14001:2015 surveillance audit

Tampakan, South Cotabato -- Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) has successfully passed its ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management System) surveillance audit, a testament to its unwavering commitment and compliance to Philippine regulations and international standards on environmental protection.
 
TÜV Nord Philippines, Inc, a member of the TÜV Nord Group and one of the world's largest Inspection, Certification & Testing organizations, recommended SMI to be granted a Certificate Maintenance following its recent on-site surveillance audit, document review and inspection of SMI facilities on June 10 and 11, 2024.
 
Although it is not yet operating, SMI has been certified as ISO 14001:2015 compliant since 2017. It passed its EMS recertification audits in 2020 and again in 2023. In between those periods, SMI also passed its yearly surveillance audits.
 
ISO 14001 is the most comprehensive environmental management and audit system for continuous improvement of environmental performance of companies and organizations and is valid throughout the world. 
 
The DENR mandated in 2015 all mining contractors to secure ISO 14001 certification as a demonstration of responsible mining and to ensure that appropriate measures are put in place to achieve minimal negative impacts of mining on the environment.
