Kiblawan, Davao del Sur — Laughter and warm smiles filled the Barangay Tacub Gymnasium on September 4, 2026, as Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) held an outreach activity for children, families, and senior citizens in the community.
Elementary and kindergarten pupils received school supplies, hygiene kits, and slippers. A feeding activity was also prepared for the children, giving them time to share a meal and enjoy the day together.
More than the items distributed, the activity offered practical help to young learners as they begin another school year. The hygiene kits, in particular, can help children maintain good personal hygiene while attending classes.
Tacub Elementary School Officer-in-Charge School Head Hearlove Muca, LPT, said the assistance was especially valuable for the school’s pupils.
“Thank you so much, SMI, sa tulong na bigay ninyo sa aming mga kabataan. Malaking tulong ito, lalo na ang hygiene kits dahil kailangan ito ng mga bata para mapanatili ang kanilang kalinisan habang nasa paaralan,” Muca said.
Senior citizens also received food packs and vitamins during the activity. SMI additionally turned over medicines to the Barangay Health Center, where these may be made available to residents who need them.
Domingga Plansok Masday, president of Tacub’s local senior citizens’ association, welcomed the inclusion of older residents in the outreach.
“Masaya kami na mga senior citizen sa araw na ito. Maraming salamat sa kumpanya dahil binibigyan ninyo ng prayoridad ang mga seniors sa Barangay Tacub,” Masday said.
For communities such as Tacub, where access to goods and services can be more difficult because of distance, even modest forms of assistance can go a long way. A new pair of slippers, school materials, a food pack, vitamins, or medicines at the health center can help meet immediate needs at home and in school.
The outreach was part of SMI’s continuing effort to stay engaged with its host and neighboring communities. By supporting education, health, nutrition, and other everyday needs, the company aims to contribute in practical ways to the well-being of residents across different age groups.
