SMI capacitates Blaan IP Coop members in Kiblawan on business skills and financial management
Tampakan, South Cotabato - Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) last week organized and provided a two-day Financial Management System and Simple Bookkeeping Training for members of the KITAB Marketing Cooperative, who belong to the Blaan Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICC) of Barangays Kimlawis, Tacub, Abnate, and Bulol-salo in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
Developing the capability of the KITAB Marketing Cooperative is one of SMI's community-empowerment projects to help boost the economic productivity of its host and neighboring communities within the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project. It is an integral part of its commitments to the Blaan ICCs under the 2019 Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) Memorandum of Agreement.
The training was aimed to equip the Coop officers and members with business skills and knowledge in cash receipts, cash disbursement, and general journal and ledger bookkeeping. Further, they participated in seminars on Fundamentals of Cooperative, Business Planning, and Costing and Pricing.
KITAB Marketing Cooperative Treasurer Rebecca Labuayan thanked SMI for the training and insights provided and encouraged the participants to use the new skills they have learned to further improve their business endeavor. (30)
