SMI turns over Classrooms for Kimlawis National High School
Tampakan, South Cotabato - Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) turned over early this month a newly-constructed building with two classrooms for Grade 7 students of Kimlawis National High School at Barangay Kimlawis, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
In partnership with the municipal government, SMI allocated PhP 500,000 for the completion of the project under its 2023 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program.
Barangay Kimlawis is one of the host barangays of the mining company’s Tampakan Copper-Gold Project.
Even though the Tampakan Project has not yet started, SMI has already invested more than PhP1.2 billion in financing various social development projects and activities that are aimed at advancing the socio–economic, health and educational conditions of its hosts and neighboring communities.
Kiblawan Muncipal Mayor Jojo Calma expressed his thanks to SMI and assured the company that they will properly maintain the structures for the benefit of future students and the community.
"We whole-heartedly accept this gift from our partner, Sagittarius Mines, Inc. Thank you so much, SMI, and may God bless you!" the local chief executive said during the turnover ceremony held last October 5, 2023.
With all major approvals both from the national and local government secured, SMI is ready to start its construction this year and produce its first copper concentrate in 2026. (30)
