Tampakan, South Cotabato – Every school day brings various needs, from notebooks and other learning materials to basic essentials like slippers. Recognizing the importance of these everyday necessities, Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) extended support to learners of Escobillo Elementary School in Brgy. Pulabato, Tampakan, South Cotabato, by providing school supplies and slippers on September 29, 2026.
The activity provided school supplies to Grade 1 to Grade 3 pupils and slippers to Grade 1 to Grade 6 pupils, helping address some of the basic needs of learners as they continue their studies.
The assistance forms part of SMI’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), which supports community development initiatives in education, health, livelihood, and other priority areas identified in partnership with communities and local stakeholders.
For Sheila Mae G. Ordona, Head Teacher III of Escobillo Elementary School, the assistance is a meaningful contribution to the learners and the school community.
“We are very grateful to Sagittarius Mines, Inc. for extending this assistance to our learners. We truly appreciate SMI’s support to our school and our learners,” she said.
She added that support from community partners helps teachers and parents address some of the practical needs of pupils, allowing learners to focus more on their studies.
“This is a big help to our learners, especially to parents who may be struggling to provide some of their children’s school needs,” she added.
For SMI, initiatives such as this reflect its commitment to responsible mining, where community development and the well-being of people remain integral to its work. Through the SDMP, SMI continues to work with communities and local partners to respond to identified needs and support programs that create lasting value beyond the classroom.
By investing in education, SMI hopes to help create better learning opportunities for young people and give them the support they need to develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence. For every learner given the chance to learn and grow, there is an opportunity to help shape stronger families and communities in the years ahead. (30)
