Kiblawan, Davao del Sur – Distance and difficult roads did not stop Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) from delivering essential medicines and medical supplies to the residents of Barangay Bulolsalo, one of the remote communities in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur.
The medicines were formally turned over last July 3, 2026 to the barangay officials and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) as part of SMI’s continuing commitment to help improve access to basic healthcare services in geographically isolated communities.
For residents of Bulolsalo, accessing medical care often requires traveling long distances. Through this initiative, SMI helps ensure that basic medicines and first aid are now readily available within the barangay, making healthcare more accessible for the community.
Barangay Captain Toto Bague expressed his gratitude to SMI for its continued support, noting that the assistance will greatly benefit the health and well-being of their constituents.
“Maraming salamat sa SMI sa inyong tulong sa barangay Bulolsalo, malaking bagay ito para sa ikabubuti ng mga mamamayan dito.”
Department of Health nurse assigned to the barangay, Jerome Rex Santos, RN, highlighted the significance of the medical supplies, saying:
“Dahil may mga gamot at supplies na bigay ang SMI, hindi na kailangan pang bumyahe ng malayo ang mga residente para kumuha ng paunang lunas, kasi merong mas malapit, mas accessible dito sa barangay mismo.”
Through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), SMI continues to demonstrate that responsible mining goes beyond operations. By investing in programs that improve access to essential services such as healthcare, the company helps build empowered communities and contributes to sustainable development in its host and neighboring communities.
