Tampakan, South Cotabato – Mining firm Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) have kicked off this year’s rice-giving program aims to compliment the government’s thrust to reduce hunger incidence and to provide relief to the marginalized sectors in key barangays in South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat at Davao del Sur.
On Wednesday, May 7, SMI turned over a total of 25 sacks of well-milled rice to the Barangay Health Center of Barangay Silway 7, in Polomolok, South Cotabato, intended for 500 family-beneficiaries.
The program has been a yearly initiative of SMI as part of its commitment to pursue mining excellence towards sustainable communities.
In a statement, SMI’s Community Relations Senior Superintendent William Baang said the initiative favors no political candidates as the company is steadfast in observing a non-partisan stance in the upcoming electoral exercise.
“Ito ay taunang ginagawa ng SMI, bilang bahagi ng corporate social responsibility ng kompaniya,” Mr. Baang said.
He also highlighted that the initiative is on top of the company’s annual Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) – a testament to SMI’s care and compassion to the less fortunate members of the society.
During the simple turn-over ceremony, Barangay Health Worker Sherryl Sorillo expressed her gratitude to SMI.
“Patunay ito na ang SMI ay talagang tinitingnan ang kapakanan ng komunidad.Ito rin ay patunay na hindi lamang kita ang habol ng kompaniya, kundi kung paano matulungan kami,” Sorillo said.
Aside from Barangay Silway 7, SMI teams also target to distribute rice to Gugma Foundation in Malungon, Sarangani province and the Indigenous Peoples community in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur. (30)
