Tampakan, South Cotabato — Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) has recently passed its second surveillance audit for its ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System) – a testament of SMI’s unwavering commitment to reducing environmental impact, enhancing resource efficiency, gaining competitive advantage, and demonstrating commitment to sustainability of key stakeholders.
During the on-site audit held last July 21, 2025, auditors from TUV Nord Philippines, Inc., conducted onsite inspections of SMI’s Liberty Corefarm and Basecamp, in Tampakan, and the Mindanao Administration Office in Polomolok, all in South Cotabato.
“The implementation of good waste management is commendable. Likewise, the stringent environmental controls in the accreditation and evaluation of external providers, suppliers, and contractors are highly commendable,” were the good practices highlighted in the Audit Report.

A mining company that maintains certification to ISO 14001:2015 demonstrates an ongoing commitment to effective environmental management. Successfully maintaining this certification indicates that the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) continues to meet the requirements of the standard for managing environmental responsibilities in a systematic, documented manner.
Although it is not yet operating, SMI has been ISO 14001:015 compliant since 2017.
ISO 14001:2015 is an internationally recognized standard specifying the requirements for an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). It provides a framework that organizations of any size, sector, or location can use to improve their environmental performance systematically by managing environmental risks, meeting compliance obligations, and addressing opportunities for improvement.
