Columbio, Sultan Kudarat — In a heartwarming gesture of cultural support, Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) partnered with the Barangay Local Government of Datalblao to assist Muslim communities of Datalblao, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat, in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan.
For thirty days, a free “iftar” program was conducted, providing evening meals to break the daily fast at sunset. Twelve dedicated individuals were tasked with preparing, cooking, and distributing food to the community, ensuring that especially those in need were fed during this significant period.
Monera G. Barron, one of the food preparers, shared his experience:
“Sa simula ng Ramadan, araw-araw kaming nagluluto gamit ang daily budget na galing sa SMI para sa pagkain. Naghahanda kami ng kanin, tapos ang ulam ay manok at kung minsan karneng baka. Sinisigurado naming makakain ang lahat ng nag-aayuno, lalo na ang mga talagang nangangailangan. Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat sa SMI at sa barangay sa kanilang bukas-palad na suporta, malaking tulong ito sa aming mga kapatid na Muslim,”
As a token of appreciation, the twelve food preparers received cash assistance for their services. The assistance was personally distributed by Mr. Moreno Tagawalo, Community Relations Supervisor of SMI, a few days before the end of Ramadan.
Bai Robea G. Singgapor, another program participant, expressed her gratitude:
“Labing-isa sa amin ay miyembro ng Women’s Association ng Barangay Datalblao. Masaya kami na naging bahagi ng inisyatibong ito, nakakatulong sa komunidad habang kami rin ay nakakatanggap ng suportang pinansyal. Malaking tulong ang natanggap naming cash assistance, at nagpapasalamat kami sa SMI at sa lokal na pamahalaan sa pagpapatupad ng libreng iftar,”
Barangay Captain Datu Zahir Mamalinta, the Local Chief Executive of Datalblao, also expressed his appreciation to SMI:
“I convey our most profound gratitude for the benevolence extended to the Muslim communities of Datalblao. We are in unison to bringing more beneficial and meaningful services to the people. I look forward to our continued partnership,”
Through initiatives like this, Sagittarius Mines Inc. continues to go beyond corporate responsibility, actively uplifting communities and preserving the rich cultural traditions of Ramadan.
