Tampakan, South Cotabato – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XII has lauded Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) for its active role in supporting environmental protection and conservation initiatives across the Soccsksargen Region.
During the 2nd Gawad Kalikasan Ceremony last June 5, 2025, held at Dream Weavers Hotel, in Koronadal City, DENR-Soccsksargen Regional Executive Director Atty. Felix S. Alicer, recognized the mining company for its unwavering commitment to responsible mining practices and the promotion of ecological balance.
“We recognize that the conservation and management of the environment and natural resources is not the sole responsibility of the DENR. Our department cannot do it alone—it must be a collective effort by all members of society,” RED Alicer said.
The Gawad Kalikasan SOX recognizes exemplary individuals and organizations that have become advocates for the protection and preservation of the environment and natural resources.
SMI’s Project Engineering and Development Manager and Chief Geologist, Mr. William F. Domasig, along with Corporate Communications Superintendent Mr. Joseph K. Palanca received the Certificate of Appreciation from DENR-12 and the plaque highlighting Sagittarius Mines, Inc. as fully-compliant mining company, committed to responsible mining practices, through consistent compliance with Tenement Management, Safety and Health Program, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program, and Social Development and Management Program.
“Let this award serve as a reminder of our responsibility and commitment in the pursuit of Mining Excellence towards sustainable communities, be a continuing effort, to empower more people, and to ensure that future generations can enjoy a healthy and thriving environment, making good use of God’s resources fully optimize for the benefits of the communities and the country in general,” Mr. Domasig said in a statement.
