Our Project
SMI is a contractor of the Philippine Government under the terms of a Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA).
Our Project

The Mine Project Feasibility Study completed in April 2010 identified a large-scale, surface mine milling 66 Million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of ore and requiring a capital investment of USD5.9 Billion.
In 2018, under new owners, SMI decided to start a Phased Approach, with a surface mine of reduced milling rate of 15 Mtpa and the increasing it progressively. This approach is expected to lead to a larger mine life, enhancing national and local benefits and royalties to ICCs and providing more employment and business opportunities.
Major approvals and permits have been secured such as Declaration of Project Feasibility; Environmental Compliance Certificates for the mine, access roads and port; Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program; Final Mine Rehabilitation and/or Decommissioning Plan.
