Tampakan, South Cotabato — Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) strengthened its community outreach efforts through the distribution of essential aid to residents of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) in Barangay Tablu.
The activity was held on March 31, 2026 covering five remote areas, namely Sitio Tokaymal, Bato/Quiapo, Datal Mangisi, Logdeck, and Mangga, reaching households that have limited access to basic goods and social services.
The initiative provided grocery packs containing rice and basic food items such as sugar and coffee to help support the daily needs of families amid ongoing economic challenges. The activity is especially significant for Indigenous Peoples (IPs), many of whom are also among senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), who face greater difficulty in accessing essential goods and services due to geographic isolation.

In addition to food assistance, SMI also distributed maternity kits for pregnant women and newborn care kits for infants to promote safe maternal and child health practices in the community. Hygiene kits were likewise given to children to encourage proper sanitation and help reduce the risk of common illnesses, particularly in remote areas with limited access to health resources.
Community members expressed their appreciation for the assistance provided. Rowena Basas, resident of Sitio Tokaymal shared that the support is a big help to their families and daily needs, especially in maintaining basic household necessities:
“Nagapasalamat gyud kami sa SMI sa ilang bulig sa amon, especially ag bugas, dako gid ni nga tabang specially sa sitwasyon nga gina atubang namon subong.”
