The position is responsible for ensuring that SMI employees, contractors, consultants,
visitors, and other stakeholders perform assigned tasks safely by following the
company’s safety and health policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
The role conducts regular safety inspections, risk assessments, hazard identification, safety
monitoring, reporting, and induction support to help maintain a safe and compliant
workplace.
Key responsibilities:
Sustainable Development and Safety Standards Implementation
- Support the effective implementation of the project’s Sustainable
Development, Safety and Health standards, systems, procedures, guidelines,
and programs within assigned areas of responsibility.
Safety Inspection
- Conduct regular safety inspections across SMI premises and project activity
sites and ensure that safety and health procedures, guidelines, and required
PPE standards are being followed.
Risk Management and Hazard Control - Conduct risk assessments in assigned areas, communicate identified
hazards, recommend appropriate control measures, and support completion
of incident corrective actions.
Safety Induction and Orientation - Coordinate with HR and relevant departments to ensure SMI employees,
contractors, and visitors complete the required safety orientation or induction
before entering the worksite.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Statutory Compliance
- Monitor implementation of safety and health procedures, report non
compliance, assist with mandatory safety and health reports, and maintain
inspection, hazard ID, incident, and corrective action records.
Emergency Preparedness, Contractor Coordination, and Cost Awareness - Assist in emergency response planning and drills, coordinate with contractors
and stakeholders on safe work practices, and help ensure expenditures are
properly coded and aligned with commercial and financial procedures.
Key requirements:
- College graduate, preferably with qualifications relevant to occupational safety
and health, engineering, environmental management, or a related discipline. - At least three (3) years of relevant experience as a Safety Inspector or in a
comparable safety and health role, including at least two (2) years of
experience in the mining industry. - Completed 40-hour BOSH and 40-hour COSH training; MGB-accredited
Safety Inspector and DOLE-accredited Safety Officer 2 credentials are
preferred or required as applicable. - Certified First Aider with working knowledge of SMI Safety and Health Policies
and Procedures, SMI Annual Safety and Health Program, Philippine Mine
Safety and Health Standards, and DOLE safety standards. - Advanced computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications, with
the ability to prepare inspection reports, monitoring reports, hazard IDs,
incident documentation, and other safety records. - Effective oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, customer
service orientation, teamwork, negotiation and networking skills, and ability to
consistently implement safety requirements.
