Tampakan, South Cotabato – Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) recently empowered women in Barangay Liberty, Tampakan, through a Product Recycling Training held on September 15, 2025. This initiative promotes livelihood opportunities and environmental stewardship by teaching creative recycling techniques.
Thirty women participated, learning hands-on how to transform plastics into bayong and bags. The training was facilitated by Ma’am Mary Ann Posas and Ma’am Hazel Clarrise Tagas, Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers from the Department of Education – Tampakan District, who shared practical methods and creative designs to help produce quality, marketable handicrafts.
Barangay Kagawad Ofelia Jabay, Chairperson of the Committee on Environment, expressed deep appreciation to SMI:
This training empowers women as advocates of recycling and sustainability while reinforcing SMI’s commitment to lasting positive impact. Through initiatives like this, SMI continues to support local communities by fostering livelihood development and promoting environmental responsibility. (30)
