Building Resilience Together: SMI Boosts Barangay Palo 19’s Emergency Preparedness

Tampakan, South Cotabato — Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) reinforced disaster preparedness in Tampakan, South Cotabato, by donating essential rescue equipment to the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) of Barangay Palo 19.

The turnover ceremony, held on November 5, 2025, at the Palo 19 Barangay Hall, gathered Barangay Captain Sotero N. Castillanes, members of the Barangay Local Government Unit, and SMI representatives. The new equipment, including safety ropes, seat harnesses, rescue kits, and other emergency response tools, will help strengthen the barangay’s capacity to respond swiftly to natural disasters and other emergencies.

Barangay Captain Castillanes expressed appreciation for the support, stating, “We are deeply grateful to Sagittarius Mines, Inc. for continuously supporting our barangay. These rescue materials will greatly assist our disaster committee in ensuring the safety of our residents, especially during calamities.”

Although Barangay Palo 19 is not one of SMI’s host barangays, the company’s assistance reflects its continuing effort to reach out and extend support to nearby communities. This initiative forms part of SMI’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), which underscores its commitment to promoting safety, readiness, and resilience beyond its direct areas of operation.

Through ongoing collaboration with local government units, SMI aims to help build stronger, disaster-ready barangays capable of protecting lives, property, and livelihoods across Tampakan.

Sagittarius Mines, Inc. remains steadfast in its mission to be a responsible community partner—empowering people, strengthening resilience, and contributing to a safer, more sustainable South Cotabato. (30)
