Bridging Distances Through Care: SMI Delivers Essential Healthcare to Barangay Tacub

Kiblawan, Davao Del Sur – Reinforcing its commitment to improving community health and well-being, Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), turned over essential medicines and Buntis Kits to the Barangay Health Center of Barangay Tacub, Kiblawan, Davao Del Sur on July 15, 2026.

Despite the geographical challenges and the remote location of Barangay Tacub, SMI continues to ensure that vital health services and assistance reach even the farthest communities. The initiative reflects the company’s commitment to creating lasting value by supporting accessible healthcare for its host and neighboring communities, particularly for vulnerable sectors such as pregnant women, children, and families in need.

The medicines and maternity kits were formally received by the barangay officials and health workers, who expressed their gratitude for SMI’s continued partnership in strengthening primary healthcare services in the community.

Barangay Nurse Sherwin U. Lestano, RN, thanked the company for its unwavering support, saying:
“Dako kaayo among pasalamat sa Sagittarius Mines, Inc. tungod sa ilang tabang sa among barangay. Dako kini og ikatabang sa among mga residente, ilabi na sa mga buntis ug mga pamilya nga nagkinahanglan og tambal.”

Barangay Captain Eddie M. Betil Sr. likewise recognized the significance of the assistance, emphasizing that the turnover demonstrates SMI’s genuine concern for the welfare of remote communities.

“Nagpasalamat gyud kami sa SMI sa ilang padayon nga suporta sa Barangay Tacub. Ang mga tambal ug Buntis Kits dako kaayong tabang. Makita namo nga bisan layo ang among barangay, naa gihapon ang ilang pag-atiman ug pagtagad sa among panginahanglan.”

The activity is part of SMI’s continuing SDMP health initiatives, which aim to improve access to quality healthcare and promote healthier communities through meaningful partnerships with local government units and rural health facilities.

By extending healthcare assistance to geographically isolated communities such as Barangay Tacub, SMI reaffirms that responsible mining goes beyond operations, it is about investing in people, strengthening communities, and ensuring that no one is left behind. Through its SDMP, SMI remains committed to helping build healthier, more resilient host and neighboring communities where every family has greater access to essential health services. (30)
