SMI is a partner of the Philippine Government under the terms of a Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA).
Our Project

The Mine Project Feasibility Study completed in April 2010 identified a large-scale, surface mine milling 66 Million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of ore and requiring a capital investment of USD5.9 Billion.
Since 1992, Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) has conducted more than 703 resource and geotechnical drilling operations using mobile diamond core drill rigs.
With an average drilling depth of approximately 360 meters for mineral exploration and 30 meters for geotechnical investigations, the cumulative core length recovered from all operations exceeds 152,000 meters, an effort that has been instrumental in establishing the world-class copper-gold resource that the project represents today.
This extensive drilling operation has also accentuated the company’s commitment to rigorous subsurface investigation in support of responsible mine development and reflects SMI’s long-standing emphasis on data-driven decision-making and adherence to industry best practices in mineral exploration and project development.
In 2018, under new owners, SMI decided to start a Phased Approach, with a surface mine of reduced milling rate of 15 Mtpa and then increasing it progressively. This approach is expected to lead to a longer mine life, enhancing national and local benefits and royalties to ICCs and providing more employment and business opportunities.
Major approvals and permits have been secured such as Declaration of Mine Project Feasibility; NCIP Certification Precondition; Environmental Compliance Certificates for the mine, access roads and port; Social Development and Management Program; Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program; Final Mine Rehabilitation and/or Decommissioning Plan.
Our Facilities

Mindanao Administrative Office
The Mindanao Administrative Office is located along the national highway in Barangay Silway 7, Polomolok, South Cotabato. This facility serves as the administrative, financial, and logistics base of the Project.

Liberty Core Farm
The world-class warehouse at the Liberty Core Farm in Barangay Liberty, Tampakan, South Cotabato, stores all the cores that have been drilled within the Project area since 1991.

The Basecamp
The field camp is for staff and contractors involved in exploration and Early Works activities; it is provided with accommodation rooms, electricity, internal signal, water and security.

Multi-User Port Facility
A 5-hectare proposed Multi-User Port Facility is to be built in the western shore of Sarangani Bay, within Barangay Bawing, General Santos City. This proposed port will be designed to export bulk and general cargo, to handle export of a throughput of 350K tonnes per year of copper concentrates. The offshore facility will have the capacity to receive vessels ranging from 5,000 to 25,000 DWT.
