Safety and Health Supervisor

Location: Tampakan, South Cotabato. This is a regular employment contract.

Role Overview:

The Safety and Health Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the SMI Safety and Health Management System at the operational level. This role ensures that all work environments across project sites promote and protect the safety and health of employees, contractors, and stakeholders.

This is a regular employment position.

Key Responsibilities:

Sustainable Development Practices

• Ensure compliance with the project’s standards for safety, health, environment, community, and security.
• Report all safety-related incidents to support a positive sustainable development (SD) culture.

Safety & Health

• Lead the implementation of safety management systems.
• Foster a workplace culture where employees and contractors perform their roles responsibly and without risk of injury, illness, or fatality

Security

• Ensure adherence to security protocols in all activities requiring compliance.

Environment

• Follow environmental policies and guidelines. Support achievement of environmental targets.

Compliance

• Maintain effective controls to ensure ongoing compliance with internal and external safety and health standards, including reporting obligations

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, any engineering discipline, or geology, preferably with experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Licensed professional (e.g., Registered Mining Engineer, Registered Geologist, etc.) is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety-related roles, preferably in:

o Mining operations
o Heavy industrial settings
o Construction or excavation
o Health and safety inspection or investigation

• Certification in BOSH (Basic Occupational Safety and Health) for Safety Officers (SO2 or SO3 accreditation from DOLE).
• Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification may also be considered (requires 30 hours of safety training and at least 2 years of supervisory experience or 4 years of industry experience).

• Proficient in MS Office applications and safety and health reporting tools.
• Strong knowledge of DOLE, DENR-MGB, and OSHA regulations.
• Skilled in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
• Excellent communication, leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
• Ability to mentor, influence others, and promote a strong safety culture.
• Familiarity with emergency response planning and hazard monitoring.
