SMI conducts fire drill simulation exercise

Tampakan, South Cotabato – Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) on Tuesday, November 7, successfully conducted its quarterly fire and emergency drills at its Mindanao Administrative Office in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

The drill started at 10:00 in the morning with all employees orderly exiting the office building – as the first and basic step – to gather in the designated evacuation area followed by the headcount of employees.

SMI’s Safety and Emergency Response Team (SERT) operated the fire extinguishers using the Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep (PASS) technique until the fire was deemed extinguished.

During the fire drill, SERT personnel also simulated an emergency retrieval scenario to look for missing employees. The team then carefully brought out an injured personnel to the first aid area to assess his condition and correctly administered first-aid procedures.

Officers from the Bureau of Fire Protection-Polomolok evaluated the drill and conducted a short debriefing to improve the company’s emergency and disaster responses.

Through these drills, SMI aims to equip its employees with the proper awareness and response to deal with on-the-spot emergency situations.  (30)
