SMI helps build school in Davao del Sur with P1.2M funding
And the school turned 1 year old.
As the first day of 2014-2015 school year started for the high school students in Barangay Lapulabao, Municipality of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, all 135 high school students were greeted with a newly-constructed one-storey, two classroom building of their own – the Lapulabao High School Annex.
You see in the previous school year, high students from Lapulabao and the adjacent barangays of Mahayahay, Maliit Digos, Clib, and La Union, all in Hagonoy, had to travel 45 minutes going to the nearest high school which is located at the Hagonoy town center, and another 45 minutes going back home. They also had to spend 60 pesos daily for their transportation fare, a big amount for families in rural Hagonoy.
With their new high school annex building, the students will have a school facility within walking distance from their respective barangays, giving them extra time (sans travelling) for studies, rest and recreation, and extra savings for their families (sans the transportation costs of going to school).
The Lapulabao High School Annex is a project of the partnership between the Hagonoy local government unit and the Department of Education Region XI office and was completed through a P1.2 million funding assistance from SMI.
